ThinX OS — Clean, fast, and fully managed from Xcalibur Global

IT Management
Shouldn't Be Hard.

Most thin client OS solutions require local administrators, complex imaging workflows, and on-site technicians. ThinX OS flips this model completely. Every setting — from display resolution to VPN credentials — is pushed remotely from the Xcalibur console. You never need to touch a device again.

What IT Teams Say About ThinX OS

Replace the quotes below with your own customer testimonials in the WordPress page editor.

We replaced 800 Windows endpoints with ChipPC thin clients running ThinX OS. Boot time dropped from 90 seconds to a few seconds, and helpdesk tickets fell by more than 60%.

JD

Jean Dupont

IT Director — Regional Hospital Group

The read-only filesystem changed our security posture overnight. We stopped worrying about ransomware on endpoints — there's literally nothing to encrypt.

AB

Anna Becker

CISO — Banking & Insurance

Pushing a new RDP connection to 1,200 thin clients now takes one click in Xcalibur. Before, we used to plan the same operation as a two-week project.

The Most Secure Thin Client OS
on the Market

Security is not an add-on in ThinX OS — it is the foundation. Every architectural decision was made to eliminate attack surfaces and protect end-user data, helping you meet enterprise security and privacy requirements in healthcare, finance, government, and education.

Read-Only Root Filesystem

The entire ThinX OS root filesystem is mounted read-only at boot time. Ransomware has nowhere to write. Malware cannot persist across reboots. Even if a session is compromised, the OS reverts to a clean state on next boot — automatically.

USB Device Policy Enforcement

Xcalibur enforces USB policies on every ThinX OS device: block all USB storage, allow only whitelisted peripherals, or set read-only mode. Prevent data exfiltration and enforce BYOD policies without any local IT intervention.

802.1X Network Access Control

ThinX OS supports 802.1X EAP authentication for wired and wireless networks. Only authenticated, registered devices can connect to your corporate network. Certificates are managed and deployed remotely via Xcalibur.

No Local User Accounts

ThinX OS has no local administrator or user accounts to compromise. There is no password to steal, no account to brute-force, no privilege escalation path. All management is done through Xcalibur, protected by 2FA and role-based access control.

SSL / TLS Certificate Management

Deploy SSL/TLS certificates to any device or group remotely via Xcalibur. Encrypt every connection — RDP, VNC, management traffic — end to end. Certificate renewal and distribution are fully automated, eliminating human error.

Full Audit Trail & GDPR-Ready

Every action on every device is logged with user identity, timestamp, and device ID. Built-in audit log export and scheduled reports help your organisation align with GDPR and internal compliance policies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before downloading ThinX OS

Is ThinX OS free?
ThinX OS is a commercial product — a per-device licence is required for production use. However, you can evaluate it for free: fill in the request form and you'll receive (1) a download link to the ThinX OS image and (2) a free trial licence (covering ThinX OS and the Xcalibur Global console). No credit card, no commitment during the trial. Contact us for full licence pricing once you're ready to roll it out.
What hardware does ThinX OS run on?
ThinX OS is the embedded Linux OS shipped with current ChipPC thin clients. It also runs on x86 / x64 hardware with at least 2 GB RAM and 4 GB flash storage. For best results we recommend running it on official ChipPC devices to take advantage of all integrated peripherals (audio, USB, certified GPU drivers).
Which remote desktop protocols are supported?
Out of the box: Microsoft RDP (8.1/10, NLA, RemoteFX), Citrix ICA/HDX (Citrix Workspace App, USB passthrough, H.264), VMware Horizon (Omnissa client with Blast Extreme & PCoIP), VNC, SSH terminal and a built-in Chromium browser. Combined with Xcalibur Global, you can also push Microsoft Teams, AVD, PuTTY, TN5250/3270 and Parallels connections to your fleet.
How is ThinX OS more secure than Windows on a thin client?
ThinX OS uses a read-only root filesystem: ransomware and malware have no place to write or persist. There are no local user accounts, no privilege-escalation paths, no Windows attack surface. All management goes through Xcalibur (with 2FA, RBAC, full audit log), and 802.1X EAP-TLS / SSL certificates are deployed remotely.
Do I need Xcalibur Global to use ThinX OS?
No — ThinX OS works in standalone mode with a local licence. However, Xcalibur Global is what unlocks the full value: zero-touch deployment, remote configuration, push tasks, in-browser remote control, audit logs and helpdesk. Most fleets run both together. The trial includes both ThinX OS and Xcalibur Global licences.
How do I install ThinX OS on a device?
Download the ThinX OS image, write it to a USB stick with Rufus (Windows) or any equivalent tool, then boot the target ChipPC device from USB (boot key is usually F7, F9 or Delete). The first-boot wizard guides you through Xcalibur enrolment or a local license code (XXXX-XXXX-XXXX).
How is GDPR / privacy handled?
ThinX OS itself stores no end-user data: every session runs against your VDI / RDP server. Xcalibur Global keeps a full audit log (user, timestamp, device, action) that you can export for GDPR or internal compliance reviews. We never see your data — Xcalibur runs on your own server, on-premises or in your cloud.
What support do I get during the trial?
ChipPC technical support is included during the trial: email assistance, setup guidance, and a dedicated account manager for fleet deployments above 50 devices. Documentation and a complete admin wiki are available at chippc.com/wiki.
